I've just been chatting to Fiona about the next Adelaide IV. It's going to be really important to get some excellent music for us to sing. I am going to run for convenor. I think I'll have a chat to Mark about whether he would like to be an official spokesperson for me if I am elected. I think Mark is a fantastic public speaker and group motivator. I just want to make the festival a great one. :)

Also, I'm toying with the idea of an IV committee blog to track what people are doing. Whenever anything important is completed it gets added to the blog. Is that too geeky? Will it work? I think it will depend on the committee.

After a gorgeous fruit salad at T-Bar Alasdair and I trundled down to Freedom to get some makeshift (oops! nearly had a freudian typo - makeshit) furniture. I bought a pretend wardrobe and ordered a shelf for the bathroom that I failed to measure and then realised it wasn't going to fit anyway. Alasdair went to a LAN party about lunch time. I took back the DVD (Bad Eggs) we borrowed from Kino on Thursday night and pointed out that it had been pretty scratched. They told me to take a freebie. So i did. I watched "View from the top" (which is a silly, girly movie with Gwynneth Paltrow and Christina Applegate in it) over lunch. Finally, I decided it was a nice day for a walk (it was raining) so I set off back to Freedom to get refunded for the shelf I ordered and now didn't want. After wandering around town for a while I realised I had horrible blisters and had to pike and catch the bus home. Plus, I ended up with a much cheaper, nastier version of the shelf I wanted for the bathroom because nothing else was going to fit! *grumble* I've set up the shelf since getting home and pretty much done bugger all since then. "Mrs Doubtfire" is on TV tonight.. followed by "Being John Malkovich" so I think I'm due for a Big Night In (TM). I've never seen "Mrs Doubtfire". Even if it's crap I'll be entertained waiting for the gem of a movie to come. Maybe the TV station planned it that way. Or maybe it's one of those movie doubles designed to showcase the talents of a star who has a new movie coming out at the cinemas soon. I'm sure It will be riveting to find out. Maybe I should get icecream too. :)

Unfortunately I can't link to the actual report since I'm not a member of this website.. I just read the article over lunch and thought I'd make reference to it.

When I went to my job seeking course at Job Network I was one of 8 people in my 15 person class who already had a job. plus two of the people who didn't have jobs were studying. 4 people in that class actually needed work and were unable to get it.. the rest of us just needed more hours so we could not rely on benefits. She actually wanted me to skip work so I could attend her course. How absolutely deranged is that?

I should have written that paper on the inadequacies of Job Network agences years ago when they opened. I was going to.. I don't know what happenned.

Waiting - The True Confessions of a Waitress by Debra Ginsberg.

Tanya gave me this book for my birthday and I only just started reading it.. It's a fascinating read, especially for someone who has done waiting themselves. What with the hot weather and all (44 degrees yesterday) I've been hiding in the air conditioned lounge room with this book for most of this morning so far and a fair chunk of yesterday. As for the book, I am starting to wonder if people who haven't done wating or any equally demeaning customer service role would actually get it. On the other hand.. most people have tried it for at least a day. Even Alasdair worked in a hot dog stand for a day or two. :)

The book is actually more of an auto-biography of her own expriences waiting.. but that's what people really want to read - the real stuff. Things that *actually* happenned to her. On a twisted note it's almost like reality TV. Maybe that's the new thing.. reality books. :P But seriously, it's quite insightful and direct. I love the psychology involved. She is psycho-analysing all the customers, herself and all her fellow wait-staff along the way. I relate to it for obvious reasons. Unfortunately, despite her efforts to prove that her life has been interesting, I know how terminally boring waiting really is.. and that she has done rather a lot of it to get the amount of stories she has bundled into this novel. It's the other life experiences and psychology that make this book a worthwhile read. Plus, she is actually quite entertaining and has a great style and wit about her.

My big Valentines day date was with Alasdair (obviously). We went to see "Love, Actually" at the moonlight cinema. It was bloody hot, but we were prepared. We had singapore noodles from Wok's Happenning (Hutt St) and a big bottle of Orange Juice. Quite a good night. I got my romance for the year. :)

Australian Central had drinks at Raglans last night. So after drinking and doing karaoke for a bit.. Mel and I caught a train up to Eden Hills for Molly's Party. I had my bike with me as well. I wasn't at the party long because everyone I knew (except Molly) left pretty much at once. It was really hot, I was a bit tipsy.. but I rode home via Blackwood, Belair and Belair Road. It was way way too dark on Belair Road but I lived to tell the tale. It was such a hot night - so beautiful for riding.

Do different races smell differently? I got this link from Memepool
This is a very strange thing to find people asking. I don't think it's race specific but there does seem to be an odour that is associated with what you eat. I attempted the lactose free world for a few weeks (I had a cold and I was also curious as to how difficult it was) and I found that people who drink milk smell like milk. You know that smell babies have (more so when they've just been fed)? It's that smell but to a lesser degree. This person has defined it as spoiled milk... but I know what they mean. It's weird. I wouldn't be at all surprised to find that other pungent smells were easily identified when leaving the skin. I mean people say Onions and Garlic are smelly.. I can't tell I eat so much of it :) I notice when I eat celery I smell of it for a day or so. Conclusion: People really do smell like what they eat. People I apologise in advance.. I will never ever stop smelling like Garlic, Onion, Capsicum and Chilli. Heh. :)

It's so hot.. It's hard to do anything because you just sweat and feel gross. But I'm so restless. I went for a walk for an hour. I've done all my washing. I've started work on the FUCS magazine. I've updated my resume. I've wasted an hour watching American Idol. I'm still bored. Thoughts keep racing through my head of all the things I can do.. but I'm feeling a bit inspirationless generally. I hope TAFE keeps me interested. I am fully expecting it to bore me to tears though. *sigh* So many things I want to do with my life.. but It's too hard to cram it all in.

Today was more training. I'm really wanting to get out and do stuff. Oh well. Next week we have hardcore training to meet FSR requirements. We all have to be qualified to make investment decisions before we can talk to customers.. even though investment training isn't until later. :) It's law.

Tonight I might try out my new yoga dvd since Alasdair is out of the house at Pub Club. Tee hee. I should cook up really yummy food and have a self indulgent relaxing night. Mmm..

Rover images. I'm fascinated by the mars photos. Alasdair is more on top of the situation than I am.. but he shows me a lot of excellent photos. Also, he's noticed that most of the photos are shown with extra red sky and rocks. The sky is actually very blue.. you can see that in some less doctored shots. Why do people want to see Mars with a red sky? Why don't they just want to see what's there?

Just had Jason over for a Thai green curry and then we all bolted out for italian hot chocolate. Mmm. As for the rest of my life there isn't much to add. I'm still in training at ACCU. I am still enrolling and sorting out RPL for TAFE. BASS are still not letting me work Saturdays while I'm at ACCU training. It's all so dull. :(

From a larger email making the rounds:

Only in Australia can a pizza delivery get to your house faster than an ambulance. Only in Australia do we have bank doors wide open, no security guards, or cameras but chain the pens to the desk.

Stand proud Aussies - we shoot, we root, we vote. We are girt by sea and pissed by lunchtime. Even though we might seem a racist, closed minded, sports obsessed little people, at least we feel better for it.

I am, you are, we are Australian!

P.S We also shoot and eat the two animals that are on our National Crest!!!! No other country has this distinction!
