A: Well, I can't imagine what use it'd be to you at work anyway.
T: Handy paperweight? Ruler (for measuring things ten inches long)?
    Ineffective mallet?
A: Ineffective mallet: good name for a band. :)
T: Ha! Absolutely. What do we think, indy punk?

Three mountains in an hour on a gutless scooter
Saturday morning I attended one of the strangest folky traditions of all: A wassail. Basically, this involves drinking a lot of scrumpy and dancing around an apple tree. You can see why it appeals, hey?

Anyway, I trundled up to Mt Barker for this on my little scooter. This is even funnier than you might think. It was so slow at times I very nearly considered pushing with my legs, Flinstones style, to help it move along. Either way, I had a ball. It was bloody freezing and I was all rugged up with a beanie on under the helmet. I had my MD-Man churning out the tunes. There was a brilliant moment where I was chugging up a steep slope, with beautiful scrub around me on either side, and I was screaming out the lyrics to "Bitches and Shit" (The Ben Folds one, of course). Hehe. If you don't know the song then I think you should make an effort to hear it sometime. It's great! I always empathise (with deliberate misinterpretation) the "She found herself short" line. Cause, well, I do.

So, I took on Norton Summit and Mount Lofty (well most of the way up, anyway) and then hooned off down Greenhill Road and took on Mount Barker. So, that's like three mountains in an hour on a gutless scooter. Cool! Oh and let's not forget that I got to ride Tregarthen road on the scooter. I was tempted to put my legs up in a V shape and squeal as I did it (This road is a rollercoaster, seriously) but instead I just giggled a lot.

I managed to see the sun rise over Basket Range from Carey Gully.. and then after going through Verdun and Hahndorf (Which were below freezing) I saw the sun rise from Hahndorf as well. Two sunrises! Yay!

But, going back to Verdun and Hahndorf being extremely cold. I came down to Verdun thinking "Oh what pretty mist" and forgetting that that meant it was FREEZING down there. The temperature dropped by about 10 degrees the whole time I was down there. I nearly died. My legs were stinging and I couldn't bend my fingers to brake. Badness! I actually had to sort of throw the dead weight of my hand over the brakes, bend my wrist and pull my arm back in order to brake. Scary! When I finally got to Mount Barker I was basking in the sunlight thinking "Warmth! Finally! It's so warm!" until I saw the temperature - It was only 3 degrees!! Eek! Verdun and Hahndorf must have been well below zero. I can't believe I used to live there!

So, the trip up was great and the ensuing wassail was great. But then I had one of the scariest experiences of my life. I accidentally took the freeway on the way back. Now, I'm not actually even sure scooters are allowed on the freeway. But even if they are.. I really don't recommend it. I nearly died. I spent the whole time checking my mirrors to see if people were going to go around me or just try to drive straight through me. This might seem overly paranoid, but when you are travelling at half the speed of the traffic coming up from behind.. trust me it's worth worrying about. After several near misses from cars travelling way too fast I was starting to panic a lot. But then I was faced with trucks. I worry about truck drivers. Especially when they're near the city. I figure by then they've taken loads of speed and haven't slept in days. All the more reason to avoid them. So, I see this truck coming up behind me and I start worrying a lot. I also realise that this truck has made no move to indicate around me and is heading to squash me flat. So I did the only sensible thing left to do: I drove off the side of the freeway and screamed. So I was off to the left of the left hand lane screaming at the truck as it passed me WAY too close. Asshole. Total Asshole.

So, Think once. Think twice. Think "Don't drive your scooter on the freeway".

    The paranoids are after me!
Teh Intawebs is so boring today I am forced to write something to entertain myself.

There was this post kind of writing itself in my head while I woke up today. Let's see if I can remember it. It might not quite have the same style to it, since last time I thought this post up I was clutching my stomach in pain. Maybe a punch to the guts will help here. I'll try that if the post starts to suck. Honest.

Well, I realised that what with all the excitement of not posting I completely failed to tell you all about the creepy guy who offered to stalk me at the petrol station the other day. No, really. He was very nice about it. And really quite scary. I don't think he was all there. This guy leaned ofer the back of Bruce's ute while I filled up the tank. Conversation goes as follows:

Creepy Guy: Why is your hair all wet?
    Ange: Um, from my shower.
Creepy Guy: Oh. Can I follow you home?
    Ange: No.
Creepy Guy: But your hair looks really good wet. I really want to follow you home.
    Ange: Er.
*Ange fills up tank as far as it will go, thinking "I can drive all day if I have to!"*
Greepy Guy: So what's your name?
    Ange: That's irrelevant.
Creepy Guy: Can I have your phone number?
    Ange: No.
Creepy Guy: I still want to follow you home.

*Ange wanders off to pay for petrol, not even thinking anything useful ie telling the staff at the petrol station what was going on. Ange comes out to see Creepy Guy waiting in his car near the exit. Ready to follow as promised. Ange does the worlds quickest three point turn and bolts out the other exit and tears off into town panicking about being followed*

I still can't believe I didn't think to a) tell anyone at the petrol station b) tell the police or c) threaten to go to the police so he would go away. I just panicked. I'm so glad my response was so cunning. Panic. Tell someone who is half asleep. Get killed.

    Yeah, good one.

And on that note. Am I alone in having the crazies chat to me? I always seem to have random people telling me about weird stuff at bus stops. There can be several people there, but the crazy person will always pick me to talk to. Why? Do I look like I care? I don't mean to.

I had a guy at pub talking to me a few days ago. He kept asking me if my book was good. I would have thought that if someone says their book *is* good and then goes back to reading it that maybe they'd prefer to read their book instead of talking to strange men.

Maybe I need a t-shirt that says "I am nasty, honest!" or "No, I DON'T want to talk to you!" or maybe a simple tattoo on my forehead like "Bites" or "Grr!". Bah. It wouldn't work. I'm doomed to a life of crazies.

Wow. Post is all finished and I didn't have to punch myself. Awesome.

    A week of updatingness
Hi all. Sorry I've been a little over the top with the linky linky lately. At least most of them are interesting. Well, they're useful. Or something.

Anyway, I fixed up a few layout issues that were bugging me and changed a few things. You probably won't even notice. Probably because you're all reading this as an rss feed. Most of you probably through lj. I'll tell you something for free: It's prettier when you click the link at the top of the post and actually look at my site. You find out all sorts of interesting stuff about me. Well, you would if I were interesting. I aspire to interestingness, is that not enough? You demanding schmucks. ;P

Okay, well to tell you the truth, the reason I never write anything interesting here is that I'm always either at work or out doing something fun. I've been to so many live performances in the last two months that I've lost count. Thankfully, I'm also an anal retentive and I've collected all my tickets ready to blog and write quick reviews about the lot of them. Hopefully I'll get around to starting this mammoth task this evening - after the small business seminar and work *sigh*.

What this means for you lot is that you will finally have some idea what I've been up to. That, and for those who read via rss feed you will be spammed to all hell with reviews. Sorry! Actually it's probably better for you to be spammed and get to read the reviews. People who properly visit my site will have to manually take a browse through the past few months. This is because I back date review and photo posts to when they actually happenned.

Oh god. I've bored you all with the details again. (So easy when I am bored myself - sorry!)

Right. Change of topic: What have I done in the past week? Um, let's see. Ah. That would involve knowing what day it is today, for starters. Got it. Good.

Thursday 13th July - Worky work. Oh god. I can't remember. Shitty Start. Ah, that's it. Corinthians did a church service at St John's Halifax. It was a high Anglican service which kind of freaked me out a bit. I know they try to give a comprehensive order of service but I always get caught out with everyone knowing what to say next while I'm still standing there looking like an idiot. Whoops. Well, the stuff we sang was very pretty and we had Alan McKie taking us for the service. We sounded pretty cool. All was good. Oh, but the incense just about choked us to death. I felt very sorry for the asthmatic soprano soloist who had to sing a top A while wheezing. Ugh. Well, then I met up with Bruce who had anticipated my needs and bought me Wok's Happenning for dinner. Yum! The we trundled off to see Jingo. Suffice it to say, we found better things to do than watch Jingo. ;)

Friday 14th July - Worky work. Er. This is hard. Ah. Howl's Moving Castle and Shinobi at the Mercury. Again I shouldn't spoil the review I will do later. But I have to say Howl's moving castle was the better of the two. And my dinner at Worldsend SUCKED. Worst curry ever. EVER I tell you!

Saturday 15th July - Woke up for a full hour in the early morning. Whinged about being awake. Went back to bed until 6pm (much better!). I needed that. Then bolted into town and had dinner at The Store with Bruce. Yumm. Met Nat briefly at La Boheme for a few martinis before crawling back to Bruce's for more sleep. Mmm. Sleep.

Sunday 16th July - If I recall correctly, I think I went into town for breakfast at ETC by myself and then some serious shopping. I think. Or that might have been the week before. Actually, I think I did the shopping bit the week before and not the breakfast. Or maybe I went home and did washing. God, I can't remember. No, that was it. I went home and did washing and computery stuff. (Oh my brain!) Then brunch with Bruce and James followed by Zephyr at the Greenaway Gallery. Awesome show. Details of show later. Promise. Then Bruce and I were going to watch movies but I crashed out. Can you believe it? I still needed more sleep. Sheesh.

Monday 17th July - Worky work. Then Waiting for Godot! Yay. Details later. Honest. (This is getting repetitive)

Tuesday 18th July - Worky work. Then dinner at Jayne and Tony's house with Bruce, Mum, Andrew and Nana.

Wednesday 19th July - Worky work. Best chicken burger ever (at King's Head). Pity they took most of my lunch break to get it to me. Bah. Had a couple of drinks with Tanya after work and then Bruce made me dinner and we watched TV on his computer in his room (This is a novelty cause he only just set it up).

Thursday 20th July - Today. At work. Not surprising. I scooted in today and to avoid peak hour traffic I came in a little early.. which was just enough time to get breakfast at Cibo before I started. That was a good start to the day. Bruce is heading up to Riverton tonight and I'm doing a seminar.. then it's all blog blog blog. Hopefully. If Bruce gets the scanned tickets to me. It's shocking that I have to rely on him to scan things for me. I have a scanner. It just doesn't work most of the time. It will occasionally work for half an hour and then shit itself again. Grr. I've had "Punch scanner repeatedly" in my to-do list for ages but to no avail. Just doesn't work. :(

Right. Well, since I've got to the end of my week I had an inkling to attempt to see how far I can recall backwards. But, you know what? I won't. Sorry. Can't be bothered. Most of it is "Worked" and "Went to see something fun that I'll tell you about later". So, I'll just tell you about it later, huh?

    Mimi Spartypants R us
Today Tanya and I have been reading a lot of Mimi Smartypants and we're starting to wonder if this girl *is* actually us. Especially when she writes stuff like this:

WHAT I HAVE LEARNED ON MY SABBATICAL
    1. If you meet your friend for coffee, but you choose a coffee shop that also serves liquor, you will both have an intense internal debate about alcohol vs. caffeine (can't have both...both = stomachache) and guess which one will win? And then your coffee date will last a long, long time, and you will come home at two in the morning, which will slightly puzzle your husband, since you were going out for coffee. Hey, these things happen

God, that doesn't sound like *anyone* I know. Honest :)

    Phone Number
I spent a long time arguing with AAPT about my old phone number but I have finally had to concede I will never get it back.

So, my phone number will stay the number I've been using lately: 0410 863 740

It doesn't help that I have changed phone numbers and moved house twice in the last six months. Hopefully people can keep track of me still :)

    World Vision
    Our workplace is nice. :)

We had excess funds in our work world vision account that we use to sponsor a child called Sambo, so we thought we would help out 2 other families through World Vision. We have sent a lamb to one family and a hen to another family. Look here to see what this means to the families.
