Mexican Party!
I've just decided what to do for my birthday - A Mexican Party at my house!
Where: My House, Prospect (call me if you don't know the address - 0414 240 914)
When: After 11am, 26th December
Bring: Mexican food to share (or BBQ food if you don't like Mexican)
Margarita and Sangria Ingredients
Bathers & Towel - Our house has two pools (one paddle pool and one slightly bigger one)
Also, I'm keen to prove that prawns can be Mexican. If anyone has a really tiny sombrero I think I can prove my point.
Invite anyone nice who might like to come.

Parties!
Exciting things happen to me all the time, living in the share house. I came home last night to find a party in my lounge room, so I joined in, drank too much and now have a serious hangover. Still. At tea time. Blah. I hate alcohol. We're having a cocktail party for Alice's birthday tomorrow with an "Alice in Wonderland" theme which should be great. Ali is making cupcakes with "Eat me" on them and I am making "Drink Me" Cocktails (which will be fruit tingles). We've handed out invites on playing cards, and every one has to dress up. Yay! Alice has decreed that she will be the only Alice. I'm coming as the doormouse so I have an excuse to be a narcoleptic.

More of the completely mundane
My weekend (after Friday night's excitement) was spent doing exactly whant I want to be doing right now: Practically nothing. Last night I watched "Down with Love" and "Jersey Girl" on DVD and they were both surprisingly good. Yay! Currently, I am sitting at work wishing I was at home with my student (bum) flatmates. Bring on Christmas with it's public holidays. I know in reality that If I sat at home with nothing to do I would very soon be wishing I had some way of earning more money so I could do more interesting things with my spare time. Yeah yeah. It's all about balance. Working on it. Meanwhile, I could probably be doing something productive in my spare moments here.. *sigh*

Kiersey Test
I just did the
Kiersey test again.
Idealists, as a temperament, are passionately concerned with personal growth and development. Idealists strive to discover who they are and how they can become their best possible self -- always this quest for self-knowledge and self-improvement drives their imagination. And they want to help others make the journey. Idealists are naturally drawn to working with people, and whether in education or counseling, in social services or personnel work, in journalism or the ministry, they are gifted at helping others find their way in life, often inspiring them to grow as individuals and to fulfill their potentials.
Idealists are sure that friendly cooperation is the best way for people to achieve their goals. Conflict and confrontation upset them because they seem to put up angry barriers between people. Idealists dream of creating harmonious, even caring personal relations, and they have a unique talent for helping people get along with each other and work together for the good of all. Such interpersonal harmony might be a romantic ideal, but then Idealists are incurable romantics who prefer to focus on what might be, rather than what is. The real, practical world is only a starting place for Idealists; they believe that life is filled with possibilities waiting to be realized, rich with meanings calling out to be understood. This idea of a mystical or spiritual dimension to life, the "not visible" or the "not yet" that can only be known through intuition or by a leap of faith, is far more important to Idealists than the world of material things.
Highly ethical in their actions, Idealists hold themselves to a strict standard of personal integrity. They must be true to themselves and to others, and they can be quite hard on themselves when they are dishonest, or when they are false or insincere. More often, however, Idealists are the very soul of kindness. Particularly in their personal relationships, Idealists are without question filled with love and good will. They believe in giving of themselves to help others; they cherish a few warm, sensitive friendships; they strive for a special rapport with their children; and in marriage they wish to find a "soulmate," someone with whom they can bond emotionally and spiritually, sharing their deepest feelings and their complex inner worlds.
Idealists are rare, making up between 20 and 25 percent of the population. But their ability to inspire people with their enthusiasm and their idealism has given them influence far beyond their numbers.

100 Things to do before you die
Last night Judith was talking about a book
by this name.. so I thought I'd hunt for some of the best suggestions.
Here's one list where I score 38. That's okay I guess, since I'm not 30 years old yet. Plus, I will never be able to grow a beard.. and I don't really want to. I don't think it's a great list.
I really like this suggestion: Go to Walden Pond and read Thoreau while drifting in a canoe.
This list is funny, but silly.
I also found this book of
100 places to see before you die which looks cool. It could go nicely with the
Guiness book of records (nature world - planet Earth) section which I was going to use as a plan for a world trip one day.

Mal Webb Rocks!
Last night I saw
Mal Webb at the
Folk Centre and he was absolutely fantastic. Ed came over raving about Mal Webb the other night and we all looked at him funny. Now I know why he raved! He was amazing! Mal Webb uses his whole body as an instrument and he thinks about music in a very mathematical way. Take for instance
Pi. He manages to intrigue mathematicians and musicologists alike. Then in
Triangle he goes nuts singing harmonics and forming an upside down triangle with them. Then he plays with linguistics a bit with
Dipthong. He also got the audience singing and
dancing (my best partner was a 4 year old) along to things, some entirely improvised as he went. An amazing bass and didge player (called Andrew) dropped in later in the evening with a 6 string bass. Mal was so impressed that he taught Andrew how to play a few of his songs - like
Tim Tam Slam (listen to the
mp3). And to top off the night I finally got to hear that bloody
Waterbear song (IV'ers should know the one - I missed that revue act. It all makes sense now)(another
mp3). then I rode home with
Bike (
listen) stuck in my head. He is unbelievable. What's also fantastic is that he is a REAL entertainer and he
teaches you how to do the crazy stuff he does. I now have a vague idea how to make a good beatbox sound (say "Baboons and pigs are beyond petite patterns" and then take out the vowels. Then make the constonants louder. Freaky but true. That one has a really good rythym). I have also had some good demonstrations of where to put microphones (Cindy Lauper's mole) and why.
"If you want to do everything in life, don't start off by making a "to do" list"- Mal Webb (I'm trying to get my way into a few quotation books).
"You're a freak" said Ani DiFranco of Mal (really!)
"He's like Bobby McFerrin, Aphex Twin and Cole Porter playing scrabble" - B.Freely
-High praise (in my book) from a Tassie pub

I'm bored
Right, so let's use the HBDI decision making/conflict resolving method to solve my current dilemma. (Yes, I am *that* bored) ----------------------------- SHORT TERM: Analyse your situation (What are the facts?): I'm at work when it is a nice day outside. My flatmates are at home having fun without me. I want to go home. I am bored. Personalise your perspective (What are your feelings on this?): I feel bored. I am grumpy. I feel restless. Strategise your desired outcomes (Where would you like to go with this?): I would like to go home. No really, that's where I'd like to go with this. Organise your action steps (What steps do you take to get there?): Leave the desk. Go down the lift. Unlock my bike. Fly and be free. ----------------------------- LONG TERM: Analyse your situation (What are the facts?): I need more free time. I need to keep earning money. Personalise your perspective (What are your feelings on this?): I want to love my job. I feel bored. I feel useless and restless. I feel like it makes no difference to anyone if a few more calls get answered. I want to do something that counts. I'm sick of being nice to people. Strategise your desired outcomes (Where would you like to go with this?): I want to step back from customer service and take on a more holistic role that will make large scale changes. I want to incorporate my studies into my role and advance my Event Management career. I want to organise fun things that people want to go to. Organise your action steps (What steps do you take to get there?): Talk to ACCU about a new role Continue studies at TAFE Take up studies at Flinders Study over the holidays Continue IV and Folk Federation volunteer work. Try not to be too bored.

So, I haven't really posted since Nov 22..
I really should actually write in my blog, but I haven't had time to do a thing. The last few weeks have been hectic: Working, concerts, rehearsing, bludging rehearsals to get more work done, meetings, random parties at our house. So.. let's work our way back a bit through the interesting days:
Sat Dec 4th - Dinner and DVD's with Alasdair
Fri Dec 3rd - Games night at Ed's House
Sun Nov 28th - Tonja's Surprise going away party.
Sat Nov 27th - ACCU Christmas dinner at the Convention Centre. Fun night, but I was stuffed.
Fri Nov 26th - Worked the Bar at the Folk Federation for an Enda Kenny gig. James Cowling was doing the catering. It was really hot that night, so after we finished we went back to my place for late night drinks in the pool. Mmmm.
Wed Nov 24th - The group formerly known as Flight did a gig in the Hutt St Naval club (111 Hutt St). We sang to the Governor, got food and wine and money. Awesome.
All the days unaccounted for were a blur of parties at our house and lots of work, rehearsals and meetings. Can't really be bothered detailing them as it will only bore you. Will try to get photos of Tonja's and Ed's parties up soon. Don't forget, I actually move photos roughly to their chronological place.

News - Bridget Jones
News: "An original Bridget Jones-style secret diary from the roaring 1920s has been discovered at a charity shop. The diary details the hectic life of 17-year-old Ilene Powell as she juggles boyfriends, parties, and crash diets in 1925."

Margit likes the "Free Parking" house rule (where money goes into the middle and you get it if you land on free parking). We said that rule sucked, so she threw all the money into the middle, then all the cards etc etc. Michael kept moving it to the side.. So, er, Margit won Monopoly. :)
